Tables and chairs in the style of "Provence"

Most people, even far from what is connected with the design of the premises at least once heard of a style called "Provence". However, few know its main distinguishing features, and therefore cannot select suitable interior items and achieve proper decoration of the apartments. But this style is considered one of the most preferred, thanks to its delicate colors and rustic style. Today we will talk about how the "correct" tables and chairs in the "Provence" style look, where they are best placed and what additional decor is required to decorate the table top.

Special features

To begin with, let's talk a little about what the Provence style is famous for and where it came from. This interior style was born in a southern French province called Provence. He was inspired by the beautiful landscapes of this corner of the country - the endless fields of blooming lavender, small village houses twined with grapes,the sea coast ... In this style there are no modern surrealistic elements of decor, chrome is alien to it, gloss is not, the "Provence" smells of pastries and freshly cut grass, flowers and the sea.

Each piece of furniture in the “Provence” style is a reminder of an old French village, where everything was done with our own hands, with love and affection. Of course, you are unlikely to find French vintage furniture in a wide access, but you should not despair - now many workshops are making suitable furniture to order, and the antiquity of old times can be given by artificial aging.

Provence style recognizes only gentle pastel colors. Beige, sky blue, ash-pink, powdery, lilac and, of course, white colors will help you in the correct design of your home.

And do not forget about the additional decor. Bouquets of wildflowers in vases, porcelain figurines, tablecloths and napkins with embroidery - all this fits perfectly into the interior of the "Provence" and becomes the "cherry on the cake" in the correct design of the apartment.

Furniture design

The special “village” atmosphere of this style requires compliance with certain rules that the appearance of the furniture must obey.She must have a vintage "aged" look, must wear, small cracks, even chipped. Forged elements, carving, hand-painted are permissible and highly desirable. It is also necessary to pay attention to:

  • The material of manufacture. This, of course, must be solid wood, metal (if forged parts are present), rattan. Combine these materials can and should be. Additional accessories - tablecloths, napkins, curtains, vases, figurines, etc., also choose only from natural components: cotton, flax, porcelain, glass. “Provence” does not recognize plastic and external cheapness.
  • Color range. This style is characterized only by the gentlest pastel shades. Olive, heavenly, ocher, peach, pink and white colors will allow you to easily combine them, because they are perfectly combined with each other. Also, you will not necessarily buy a furniture set, you can simply combine several items of different colors, but similar in style, and they will look very harmonious.

Forms

For Provencal tables are characterized by the following forms.

Rectangle

This is a classic of the genre.A table with a tabletop of this form has several variations of appearance: it can be massive, with large legs and a thick, wide working surface or, on the contrary, an elegant, with thin forged legs and an elegantly thin small tabletop. A large version is suitable as a kitchen table, a smaller one can be put on the veranda or in the living room;

Oval

This piece of furniture, especially if it is of impressive size, is usually placed in a spacious dining room. It looks very beautiful, a large family can accommodate around it. It is desirable to pick up several identical chairs upholstered with textiles to such a table and cover it with a tablecloth in the color of this upholstery.

A circle

As well as oval, it is used in spacious rooms such as a dining room or a kitchen-dining room. It is convenient to have dinner at such a table, as it has no corners and all the people behind it can easily reach all the dishes in the center.

Of course, the Provence-style tables can be not only dining: a small round or oval table can serve as a coffee table perfectly, and a number of flower pots can be put on a small rectangular tabletop.

Extra Decor

We have many times mentioned that additional decorative elements are needed to complete and complete the styling of the room in the Provence style. Let's see how you can decorate the tables:

  • Textile accessories. Tablecloths, napkins, curtains, kitchen towels - all this should be from natural fabrics, preferably cotton or linen. Such "rural" prints as a strip, a cell, a flower are welcomed. Special chic to your home will give accessories with hand-embroidered, sheathed with lace or braid;
  • Fresh flowers in vases, without which we do not think the style of "Provence". Especially preferred sprigs of lavender. But if it is problematic to get it, any wildflowers will fit - chamomiles, bells, clover. You can decorate the room and flowers from your own garden - peonies, asters. The vases for such bouquets should be very simple - faience or glass;
  • Antique Candelabra or Candles Come if you want to give your dinner or dinner a touch of romance. It can be bronze, wood or even earthenware. On other days, this candlestick will serve as an excellent element of decor.

Seating

With the tables figured out, now let's pick up chairs for them. There are two most common options for the appearance of chairs in the style of "Provence" - it can be elegant products on bent forged legs with soft, upholstered seats or they can be solid, made entirely of wood, most often they are decorated with decorative carvings and paintings. For softness, specially stitched small pads can be put on such chairs.

The fabric used in upholstery and sewing pillows should be in harmony with the pattern of tablecloths and napkins.

Chairs in the style of "Provence" can stand not only near the kitchen table, they are also very appropriate in the living room and on the veranda. In this case, make sure that their colors do not stand out from the overall style of the apartment. Perhaps it would be superfluous to mention that the chairs, like all other furniture, should have a touch of antiquity and be vintage.
