Sliding wardrobe with their own hands: drawings and description
In any apartment, especially small-sized, it is very important to have a place where you can hang out clothes, put boxes with shoes and place a lot of other things, without creating the effect of cluttering the space. This will help you built-in wardrobe. Now a very large number of firms offer services for the assembly and installation of such cabinets, but, as a rule, they are not cheap. The alternative is to read our article and assemble a wardrobe with your own hands.
The choice of location and size
It is great if there is a niche in the room where the wardrobe is planned to be installed - in this case, you will have to mount only the “stuffing” of the wardrobe, attaching shelves and hanging it to the niche walls, as well as sliding doors; rear and side walls will be missing. If there is none, you can build an angular wardrobe, or simply attach it to the selected wall. Note that after assembly, this structure will be fixed and will not be able to move; therefore, carefully choose the location of your cabinet.
Next, do some designing. Start by measuring the future of the cabinet with the help of roulette. Measure and write down the desired height, length and width of the cabinet several times. This information will be useful when purchasing materials. Draw a drawing to scale, mark on it all the necessary additions that you plan to insert into your closet. It can be shelves, drawers, baskets, mezzanines, hung, etc. It’s not so difficult to design a wardrobe itself; the main thing is to approach its measurements in good faith, take into account the scale when drawing and pay attention to every little thing.
The length of the cabinet should not exceed 3 meters, the maximum maximum is 5 meters. The length of each door is no more than a meter. This is directly related to the load on the “rails” of the cabinet and on the structure as a whole.
Make a full calculation of the necessary materials for your individual project. Recheck and recount several times. Remember the "golden rule" - measure seven times, one - cut. It will be very unpleasant if you have to redo something at the construction stage.
Drawings and detailing
If you have the capabilities and skills, do the design of your wardrobe in a special computer program. This will allow to work it out in more detail and clearly.If this is not possible - draw sketches by hand, taking into account all previously made calculations. This is called detailing, that is, the study of the cabinet exploded. Be sure to indicate on your scheme the thickness, width and depth of the shelves and partitions, the length of the rods and the height of their location, etc. Put all the information in the table, so it will be more convenient to organize them.
In general, whether we design our wardrobe on a computer or draw a scheme by hand - we carefully measure, systematize them and proceed to purchase the materials and tools necessary for the construction.
Materials and tools
To create a closet with your own hands, you need the following materials:
- Pre-sawn chipboard sheets. Sawing is best ordered from experienced craftsmen, providing them with their detailed wardrobe layout with all measurements;
- Dowel-nails, screws;
- Plastic furniture corners;
- Wooden beams from timber;
- Guides, wheels;
- Sliding doors for the cabinet is better to buy ready, in this case it will be possible to choose doors with a mirror or an interesting engraving;
- Coat hooks, metal bar.
To carry out work on the installation of your closet help tools such as:
- Drill, hammer drill, screwdriver;
- A simple pencil, meter ruler, building level, tape measure;
- Drills for concrete and wood;
- Jigsaw;
- Hexagon.
In order to make the closet correctly, consider all the features of your apartment - uneven walls, curved floor and ceiling. Carefully take measurements at different points. Perhaps already in the process of installation will have something to file, correct. To facilitate your work, try to choose a more or less standard design, especially if you have no experience in assembling furniture.
Step by step instructions for the manufacture and assembly
The first stage is the markup:
- First, take a ruler or tape measure and measure the full length of the cabinet in the place where you are going to install it. The easiest way to do this is from the corner of the room, then one of the side walls will be the corner wall of the apartment;
- from the resulting point, draw a vertical line from top to bottom to mark the border of the closet. To make the line more even, you need to make several measurements from a corner at different levels of height and put a pencil mark, which after and connect the line;
- after that, it is necessary to measure and draw another vertical line - the border, between the department with shelves and the department with the hanging. A wooden stand will be installed along this line, separating these departments;
- Now mark the height of the shelves on the received lines, making notes on both sides with a pencil.
The second stage - mount the mount:
- take fasteners, put them to the received lines and mark the places where you need to drill holes in the wall;
- it is necessary to hammer in the dowel-nail into each received hole;
- Attach the wall mount with screws.
The third stage is the installation of the internal filling of the wardrobe:
- to fasten the dividing stand, attach it to the fasteners and screw them to them with screws;
- To install the mezzanine, we first draw a horizontal line with a level and a pencil. Next, on the received line we drill holes for fastenings - two in each compartment and on each side; dowel-nails are driven into them and fixings are fixed on the wall. Secure the mezzanine with the help of screws;
- To mount the side of the cabinet, measure the height of the room as accurately as possible and try to fit the wall to the result.Install it and attach the screws to the available fasteners;
- we mount the shelves: we mark the places of their installation on the side of the wall and on the dividing stand, install two fastenings on each side and put ready shelves on them. Attach with screws;
- The second section of the cabinet is reserved for things on hangers, therefore it is necessary to install a metal pipe there. Get round fasteners around the pipe diameter, attach them to the wall and middle dividing rack with self-tapping screws, cut the prepared pipe if necessary, insert into the fasteners and fix.
The fourth stage - installation of false panels:
- False panels are installed at the bottom, top, side and near the wall. Each of them is drilled in several places, substituted where it is planned to be installed and marked with a pencil where it is necessary to make holes in the wall;
- Dowels are inserted into these holes, false panels are attached to them with screws.
The fifth stage (final) - installation of doors and guides:
- to install the guides it is necessary to measure their desired length, fit to size. After, with the help of screws, they are fixed on false panels - top and bottom;
- door installation requires a certain skill and accuracy. Attach the rails to them, but they do not need to be too tight for more free movement of the rollers. The door is inserted first into the guide from above, then into the guide from below. Adjust them to free movement on rails. It is desirable to stick a soft nap on the side of the door to prevent noise from impact and to avoid damage to the door;
- carefully check the quality of installation of all parts, the operation of the doors. If everything is in order, the work is finished!
Examples of competent design
Now it remains only to think of how we can decorate the facade of the finished wardrobe. Of course, do not forget that its appearance should be in harmony with the rest of the furniture and the overall design of the apartment.
Most often, a combination of two or three chipboard colors is used to decorate the facade of the cabinet, for example, the combination of “wenge + oak” or “wenge + beech” looks very nice, that is, a combination of dark and light colors.
If you are a fan of natural materials and the design of your apartment is made in eco-style, then pay attention to the inserts of bamboo, rattan and wood.
Very modern and stylish look wardrobe doors, decorated with mirrors, stained glass and glass inserts.
For pretentiously vintage interiors fit wardrobe in the merchant's style, decorated with pilasters and gold.
If you are the owner of a leather furniture set, perhaps you will appreciate the leather inserts on the cabinet doors. This ensemble looks very expensive and elegant.
Alternatively, you can glue the door with self-adhesive film with photo printing. If you choose a suitable print, such a wardrobe will not give way to a closet, custom-made by professionals.
