Chandeliers with fabric shade

Chandeliers with fabric shade do not lose their popularity over the years. In the 17th century, they decorated the living rooms and bedrooms of wealthy and distinguished persons, pointed to the wealth and the refined taste of the owners of the house. Having not lost the sophistication of the design and variety of forms, such models still remain relevant and in demand.

Kinds

According to the method of mounting to the ceiling, chandeliers are of two types:

  • suspended models. Mounted with a hook, pre-fixed in the ceiling. The suspension can be made in the form of a chain with a wire passed through the links or in the form of a tube, inside which the wires are hidden.

Chandeliers with this type of attachment are used in rooms with high ceilings and create bright and uniform lighting;

  • ceiling. The ceiling plate is mounted, hiding the wires, on which is located one or more lighting elements with lampshades. This type of chandelier is suitable for low rooms, the carrier bar often has a mirrored surface that contributes to more uniform lighting and is suitable for many modern styles.

Special features

Devices with fabric shades have both positive and negative properties. The advantages include:

  • soft diffusing light that creates an atmosphere of comfort and tranquility;
  • ease. Unlike products with lampshades, such models have less weight, which is convenient during installation and eliminates the risk of a chandelier falling due to its own weight;
  • impossibility to break the lampshade. This quality is relevant for the use of chandeliers in children's rooms. Inadvertent damage to the device and injury to the child are excluded;
  • A wide price range allows you to choose budget models that can often be changed to new ones.

Among the shortcomings can be noted:

  • burnout material, especially cotton fabrics;
  • the use of lamps of a strictly defined type due to the possibility of ignition and deformation of the fabric shade;
  • special care It is more difficult to care for fabric goods than for lamp shades made of hard materials.

Use in various rooms

Due to the wide model range and various designs, the chandelier with a fabric shade can be chosen for almost any room in the house, with the exception of bathrooms and sanitary facilities that are marked with high humidity. Fabric pattern can be seen:

  • in the bedroom.Lamp shades soften and diffuse the light, creating a romantic and relaxing atmosphere. For example, silk products let the light flow well through, so they do not create a bright directional beam that tires the eyes;
  • in the living room of a classic style, a chandelier with a round satin shade decorated with fringe will look great;
  • a denim shade with a patch pocket, in which you can put a checkered shawl or make an appliqué from pieces of leather, will fit into the room of a teenage child;
  • in the bedroom of a small child a chandelier with a yellow or orange shade with a print of fairy tale characters or animals will look good;
  • Not all types of fabrics will fit into the kitchen due to the fact that many of them cannot be cleaned of grease and dust.

A lampshade made of burlap and decorated with wooden elements - buttons or large beads can be a good design decision.

Materials

For the production of lampshades the following types of fabrics are used:

  • Silk passes light well, does not create the effect of a directional beam, it is well suited to a bedroom or nursery. Short-lived;
  • Organza looks very beautiful, diffuses the light, creates a cozy atmosphere. It will be in perfect harmony with curtains made of the same material;

  • Chintz - durable inexpensive material;
  • Satin has a solid structure, creates a subdued light, and a wide range of colors and diverse design allows you to choose a product for any room;
  • Linen - thick fabric, suitable for country houses, decorated in the styles of Provence and Chebbi-chic;

Design

Chandeliers with fabric shade can be:

  • single-tube The frame can be both classically round and have a cylindrical or conical shape, or square and used in modern styles. The lamp shade of single-lamp chandeliers is often directed downwards. Round models can be decorated with fringe, bows, rhinestones, plastic or wooden inserts.

Single-lamp models are perfectly combined with floor lamps and table lamps, the lampshades of which are made of the same material and in the same style.

  • multi-bulb, consisting of 2 or more identical fabric lamp shades, which can be directed both up and down. By type of attachment are suspended and ceiling.

Color solutions

When choosing a chandelier, you can focus on the color of the room and choose a shade that will repeat the colors of the surrounding space. But if the chandelier is the main and only source of illumination and the owners want to focus attention on it, then a contrast model should be purchased. Each color in its own way affects the intensity of illumination and the general atmosphere of the room:

  • black lampshades look stylish, especially in a room of bright colors, but they darken the room;
  • violet creates soft and romantic lighting provided the fabric is transparent;
  • blue and green give cold light;
  • yellow, orange and red paint the room in warm colors. Well suited to the nursery;
  • bright colors will harmoniously look in modern and country styles;
  • dark shades in combination with a strict design and density of the fabric are able to create a bright directional luminous flux and will be indispensable in a study or library;
  • A print in the form of an ornament or geometric shapes is suitable for modern styles, and with a floral or floral motif for traditional interiors.

Making your own hands

The lampshade for the chandelier can be sewn by yourself.

This will require:

  • wire frame;
  • the cloth;
  • pencil, ruler, drawing paper;
  • pins, needle and thread;
  • universal transparent glue.

Working process:

  • paint the frame and wrap with cotton cloth tape;
  • measure the circumference of the frame, as well as the distance between its two parts - the upper and lower ring;
  • on drawing paper to make a drawing. You should get a rectangle in which the lower and upper sides are equal to the circumference, and the side (height of the product) - the distance between the parts of the structure;
  • cut a pattern and pin to the seamy side of the fabric with pins along the perimeter;
  • cut around the piece and from this line make a seam allowance of 2 cm, then cut the pattern along the seam line;
  • carefully wrap the allowances inside and iron. After that, remove the paper template;
  • process the edges of the workpiece so as not to crumble;
  • fold the fabric in half, face down and sew;
  • unscrew, put on the frame and glue the upper and lower edges to the frame rings, wringing the fabric through the wire;
  • Allow the glue to dry, then decorate the gluing place. The lower part can be decorated with fringe, the top - with a fabric ribbon with a knotted bow. For Provencal style, you can use instead of fringe and lace ribbons;
  • decorate the surface of the lampshade with rhinestones, buttons, fabric flowers or bows. And for a country style, the lampshade can be trimmed with shreds that are sewn on top of the main “case”.
