Vertical blinds to the kitchen
The kitchen is a place where the hostess should feel not only comfortable, but also comfortable. Beautifully decorated windows create comfort in the kitchen, but the usual tulle curtains and night curtains are not very comfortable in the realities of modern kitchens. It is much more convenient and practical to use blinds instead of curtains. The fact is that the kitchen has its own “atmosphere and climate”, there are constantly large temperature drops, steam curls, humidity changes, particles of fat settle on furniture and windows, soot from gas burners covers the surface. That is why kitchen blinds must have certain properties, and their choice must be approached consciously.
Do not be afraid that such decor on the windows will turn the kitchen into a dull office space, there is a huge choice of colors, as well as design solutions that allow you to make unique drawings on the blinds, as well as to make a canvas of any contour. One of the most convenient types of kitchen blinds are vertical.
Advantages and disadvantages
- Practical.Vertical blinds are easy to clean, they are flexible and easily fit in the bathroom, dry quickly and do not lose their shape;
- resistant to frequent changes in temperature and humidity;
- do not fade in the sun due to impregnation with compounds that prevent exposure to ultraviolet rays;
- visually pull the space, which is very important for an apartment with a ceiling of 2.5 m;
- Easily fit into any kitchen interior - from high-tech to classic. The fabric base allows you to put on them any pattern;
- do not occupy free space and do not “steal” the space, like night curtains, which is very suitable for kitchen premises with a small window;
- They have a very convenient and simple control system, they work easier than horizontal blinds. It can be installed in several positions, draw them, like ordinary curtains, completely close the strips, darkening the room or experiment with light and shade, opening the shutter to different widths;
- the construction is stronger and more durable than that of horizontal type blinds;
- control rope is installed from any side convenient for you;
- may have remote control;
- blends beautifully with other window decorations, such as tulle or organza;
The disadvantages of this type of blinds are not very much, but they are still worth mentioning:
- blinds in the expanded form make it difficult to access the window sill, which can create certain difficulties in its use;
- in spite of the fact that vertical blinds slats are easily washed off of grease and kitchen soot, the process of cleaning them can be time-consuming;
- if the window sill is narrow, then with the blinds closed it is difficult to open the window sash to its full amplitude. However, in a vertical construction this is much easier than in a horizontal one. The sash window can be fixed between the lamellas;
- with a strong wind and an open window, the slats of vertical blinds easily tangle with each other.
Tissue or plastic?
The main material for the manufacture of vertical kitchen blinds - plastic (more precisely, fiberglass) or fabric. Each of them has its own characteristics, advantages and disadvantages.
Lamels (vertical strips 85 mm or 105 mm wide) of fabric blinds are made of dense material, which is additionally treated with a dust-repellent impregnation, as well as a composition that increases the rigidity of the fabric (acrylic and polyvinyl chloride). Silent at work.Plastic blinds slats are made of plastic, respectively, they "rustle" when opening and closing.
Plastic lamellae are prone to fading because they cannot be treated with UV protection. A decent appearance from the side of the street will last a couple of seasons if the kitchen window overlooks the shady side, one season if you have the sunny side.
Slightly soiled fabric blinds can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner, regularly wiped with a damp cloth, and to remove strong dirt they can be removed and washed, having twisted into a roll beforehand. Plastic blinds wash problematic. During removal of the slats from the eaves, they can easily be damaged, and during twisting the plastic may crack. Therefore, plastic blinds will have to be washed in an upright position, standing on a stool.
The advantage of plastic vertical blinds is full opacity. Lamella very close to each other, blocking access to sunlight. Fabric can not boast of such an opportunity.
In favor of plastic blinds in the kitchen can speak another factor - low fire risk.Fiberglass does not burn like a cloth, but is baked, so if during a gust of wind the lamella got into the open fire zone, then there would be no fire.
Design solutions in the kitchen
As already mentioned, vertical blinds, as opposed to horizontal blinds, have much more opportunities to adjust to the interior of any room. Multi-venetian blinds, which consist of several layers, are very popular: a decorative layer and a functional layer.
The decorative layer is usually attached to the eaves and made of fiberglass lamellae in the form of lambrequin, arch, wave, and any other. This layer is fixed. The functional layer - the actual blinds - perform their main function - protection from sunlight and from prying eyes. The material and color for them is chosen by the customer.
Vertical blinds can play the role of the main accent in your kitchen and be made in the same color with other decorative elements: cabinet handles, lamp, stools, dishes. In this case, designers recommend bright juicy colors.
If your kitchen is made in a classic style, then the fabric on the blinds should visually resemble velvet, brocade or silk.If country style, the slats should have a large texture: matting, burlap.
Wide European lamellas (105 mm) can be made with a wavy outer edge, which allows you to simulate a flowing vertical wave.
It is possible to apply any pattern with photo printing technology on fabric vertical blinds.
